Exam Pattern
Paper 1 (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude) - 100 objective type questions in 120 minutes (2 marks for every right answer & -2/3 marks for every wrong answer)

- Fast Ethernet (802.3u) is designed by IEEE to compete with LAN protocols which can transmit data ten times faster at a rate of 100 Mbps. (from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
- Bluetooth is a IEEE standard protocol which defines a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) operable in a room, which has a range of 10 meters only.
- Wi-Fi means wireless fidelity. It is a specific type of WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) that use specifications in the 802.11 wireless protocol. Wi-Fi- has a bigger range than a room i.e. 150 feet (46 m) indoors and 300 feet (92 m) outdoors.
- Infra-red is NOT an IEEE standard protocol.
- Peering point is a private switching station that connects the national internet service provider’s network and operates at a high data rate up to 600 Mbps.
- Public Internet Access Programme has two sub components which are: Common Services Centres (CSCs) and Post Offices as multi-service centres. 150,000 Post Offices will be converted into multi service centres. Department of Posts would be the nodal department to implement this scheme.
